DAY 1 SOFIA
Pick up from the airport, start with walking tour of Sofia, visit: Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St. Sofia church, the 4-th century St. George Rotonda, the Mosque, the Synagogue, the old market and many more. Drive to the foot of Vitosha Mountain and visit the amazing medieval frescos of Boyana church. Welcome dinner with folklore programe and firedance show.
DAY 2 SOFIA - BANSKO
Head South of the capital Sofia in the deep valley at an elevation of 1,147 m above sea level and visit the magnificent Rila Monastery – the biggest in Bulgaria and one of Europe's oldest monsteries, UNESCO Site. Visit the monastery museum and enjoy a delicious outdoor local lunch. Drive to Bansko for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3 BANSKO - PLOVDIV
Sightseeing in Bansko before taking the Rhodope Narrow Gauge - the last operational narrow gauge line in Bulgaria with the rare track gauge of 760mm. Spend couple of hours on board surrounded by striking natural scenery. Get off Avramovo Railway Station - at 1,267 metres, the highest in the Balkans. After a traditional Rhodopean lunch we travel to Plovdiv for overnight.
DAY 4 PLOVDIV
Guided walking tour of The Old Plovdiv, visit the 2nd century Roman theatre, The Etnographic Museum, climb up Nebet Tepe to get some great photos of the old towny, walk down the market to visit the 15th-century Dzhumaya Mosque. Later in the evening we indulge you in the local cuisine, famed for its grilled meats and vegetables on skewers etc.
DAY 5 PLOVDIV - NESSEBAR - VARNA
Morning departure to Nessebar - famous for its numerous medieval churches and designated by Unesco as a World Heritage site Nessebar has a handful of interesting museums, remains of fortress walls, authentic medieval fortifications of different epochs and superb seafood. After lunch in Nessebar we set off following the Black sea coast all the way to Varna.
DAY 6 VARNA - VELIKO TARNOVO
The beautiful seaside Varna is Bulgaria's third largest city. Visit Varna Cathedral and The Archeological museum. See The Neolithic necropolis - a key archaeological site in world prehistory considered the world's oldest large find of gold artifacts. After lunch we travel to The Madara rider - the principal sacred place of bothe the Thracians and The First Bulgarian Empire before conversion to Christianity. Evening arrival in Veliko Tarnovo.
DAY 7 VELIKO TARNOVO
Full walking tour of Veliko Tarnovo, visit Tsarevets Fortress. For lunch we drive to the nearby village of Arbanasi to see the 15-th century Church of Nativity of Christ. Back to Tarnovo in the evening, walk down the colorful crafts market and enjoy the variety of bar and restaurants.
DAY 8 VELIKO TARNOVO - SOFIA
On the way to Sofia we stop at Glozhene Monastery - built right on top of a mount, founded in the 13th century and renewed in 1931. Glozhene Monastery is a very special place hidden in a beautiful forests offering amazing vistas of The Balkan Mountains. Evening arrival to Sofia.
DAY 9 SOFIA Transfer to airport according flight schedule.
